The Parliamentary Precinct Branch of Public Works and Government Services Canada manages the day-to-day operations, maintenance and renovations of approximately 143,000 square metres of space, made up of the East, Centre and West Blocks, the Library of Parliament, as well as the Confederation and Justice buildings. The Precinct is also responsible for all the buildings and several commercial leases located on the north side of Sparks Street between Elgin and Bank Streets.
It is our job to make sure that the Parliament Hill buildings—the seat of our country’s Parliament, a symbol of democracy for Canadians and a national historic site—are properly maintained and renovated. Many of the buildings on Parliament Hill are over a century old and must be modernized both inside and out to meet the standards of the 21st century.
To achieve this modernization, the Parliamentary Precinct Branch has put in place a Long Term Vision and Plan (LTVP) to establish a coordinated approach to the restoration and modernization of the Parliament Buildings over the next 25 years. This plan was done in collaboration with the Senate, the House of Commons and the Library of Parliament.
